Who may use the U.S. Hemp Authority® Certification Seal?
Any company that has passed the third-party audit, executed the U.S. Hemp Authority® Licensing Agreement and paid the Licensing Fee may use the Seal during that certified year. Certified companies currently include growers, processors/manufacturers and brand owners.
What if my company is vertically integrated?
Vertically integrated companies that are verified to meet the Standard, have executed the Licensing Agreement and have paid the Licensing Fee may use the Seal on labels, websites, marketing materials, invoices and letterhead. Each farm and facility within the operation must pass its own physical audit.
Who conducts the audits?
Audits are conducted by an independent third-party certification body, not by the U.S. Hemp Authority. To begin, apply for an audit through the program's certification body.
How often are audits conducted?
Certification lasts one certified year. Certified companies are re-inspected annually to keep their certification and their right to use the Seal.
How much does certification cost?
Costs have two parts: an inspection fee (on-site daily rate or desk audit) and a certification fee based on operation type and scope. See the full fee schedule.
Can an existing third-party audit be used?
Possibly. A desk audit ($649 per facility) reviews current third-party audits such as cGMP or BRCGS. It requires complete reports from an accredited certification body, including observations and action plans. An on-site inspection may still be required if the information provided is insufficient.
Which version of the Standard applies to me?
Version 4.0 applies to all new applicants. Companies certified under Version 3.0 must show full conformance with any Version 4.0 changes at their next annual certification inspection. See the Summary of Changes.
Is there a certification program for delta-8 and delta-9 THC products?
Yes. In 2024 the U.S. Hemp Authority launched a certification program for adult-use cannabinoid products, specifically delta-8 and delta-9 THC products that can cause impairment. Contact the program for current requirements.
How is the Standard developed?
The Technical Committee maintains the Standard under Terms of Reference approved by the Board. Revisions are published for public comment, and a summary of stakeholder comments and their disposition is published with each new version.
